About
Dr. Shoji Ikeda, Professor Emeritus of Yokohama National University, and Dr. Nobuaki
Otsuki, Professor of Tokyo Institute of Technology, have contributed to the Conference of
OWICS (Our World in Concrete and Structures) for many years, and OWICS Committee
dedicated the Conference to Professor Ikeda in 2003 and Professor Otsuki in 2008,
respectively. OWICS Conferences have been organized by CI-Premier whose president is
Mr. John Tan under the direction of the world-eminent Professor Lee Seng Lip, Professor
Emeritus of National Singapore University. Many Japanese engineers and scholars have
participated and presented their papers every year so far in the well-known international
OWICS Conference which is characterized by friendly, sophisticated and global
atmosphere. Moreover, the spirit of OWICS has expanded worldwide to hold various
international sister symposia in USA, Portugal, China, Hong Kong and Japan relating to
each specific themes.
The initiation of this International Symposium on Concrete and Structures for Next
Generation “Ikeda & Otsuki Symposium (IOS2016)” was the proposal of Mr. John Tan
who suggested to hold an OWICS related-Symposium in Tokyo as one of the activities of
the post 40th anniversary of OWICS in 2015. In addition, the year of 2016 is the year
when Professor Otsuki becomes Professor Emeritus.
The world has been rapidly globalized and this fact makes great influence on our
domestic and international activities. At this Symposium, the discussions and talking
should be in English, therefore, you can experience a genuine global atmosphere as if
you were virtually staying in a foreign country, say, in Singapore or other international
city. The main purpose of this Symposium is to provide concrete engineers and
researchers to develop and enhance their international skills together with the
opportunity to exchange their most innovative research and engineering results
We hope that you the concrete engineers who bear next generation agree with the
above-mentioned concept and join to make this Symposium fruitful.
